Biodiesel from Rapeseed and Sunflower Oil: Effect of the Transesterification Conditions and Oxidation Stability

In this study, we produced biodiesel fuel from two vegetal sources, rapeseed oil and sunflower oil, by transesterification reaction. The study aims to evaluate the impact of type alcohol, its concentration reaction time, while keeping constant temperature catalyst on yield quality biodiesel. For methanol ethanol were used at a molar ratio with 3 24. Transesterification was performed various times; 20, 40, 60 90 min for each defined alcohol:oil ratio. influence these parameters properties investigated in terms density, viscosity, heating value, flash point, elemental content, density oxidative stability final product. benefit oxidation stabilizers, catechol 4-allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol investigated. Results demonstrate that optimum conditions obtain higher an 15:1, 60-min time 50 °C; case best 18:1 ratio, 40-min °C. both cases, provides highest yields biodiesel, obtained products satisfy required standards present similarity mineral diesel tested same conditions.
